I write this letter to you who believe in the Son of God. I write so that you will know that you have eternal life now. 1 John 5:13 ERV:
The Bible teaches that faith in Jesus gives believers assurance of eternal life and brings blessings for life now, though Christians also read the New Testament as honest about suffering, trials, and the call to follow Jesus even when life is hard. This verse is written to give believers confidence that trusting in the Son of God means they have eternal life now and a promised future with God. Many New Testament texts pair the promise of eternal life with realistic teaching about present difficulties (Jesus’ warnings about persecution, Paul’s talk of suffering and hope). Christians often say salvation brings both a guaranteed future with God and a transformed way of living now, peace, purpose, and the presence of the Spirit, without promising a trouble‑free life. Assurance is commonly grounded in God’s promises, the witness of the Holy Spirit, changed life and fruit, and the testimony of Scripture. Different traditions emphasize different markers (personal assurance, sacramental signs, ongoing repentance and faith).
Heavenly Father God, thank You repentance and for the gift of salvation through Jesus and the sure promise of eternal life. Fill us with Your peace and confidence today; help us live with joy, courage, and love even amid trials. Strengthen our faith, guide our steps, and let the hope of Heaven shape every choice. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Lord Jesus Amen.
