“Protection From Those Who Plot Evil”

Psalm 140:1–3 ERV: Lord, save me from people who are evil.  Protect me from those who are cruel,  from those who plan to do evil and always cause trouble. Their words are as harmful as the fangs of a snake, as deadly as its venom. Selah.  All that Christ does for us daily. Knowing that, it is fitting that this beautiful word Selah should be, like our faith, just beyond our full understanding.

Hold fast to the truth that God listens to the cry of the righteous and is able to shield us from the harm others intend. David begins with a simple, urgent plea: “Lord, rescue me; listen to my cry.” He’s not asking for vengeance but for protection from people whose words and plans are meant to harm. These verses remind us that danger often comes wrapped in conversation, slander, lies, and secret schemes, and that our first response should be to bring those fears to God. When you feel threatened by gossip or hidden hostility, name it honestly before the Lord, trust his care, and refuse to repay evil with evil. Let God be your defender while you keep a soft heart and steady hands. Selah gives us an opportunity to take a moment away from this crazy, busy, non-stop life we all tend to live and consider the immense mysteries and wonders of God. Paul speaks to this in Colossians 2:2-3My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, hear my cry. Protect me from those who plot harm and from words that wound; give me wisdom to respond with grace, courage to trust Your justice, and peace that steadies my heart. Bless all those fighting behind the scenes with you to protect the gifts You have given us to take care of. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Jesus Amen.
