My dear friends, many false prophets are in the world now. So don’t believe every spirit but test the spirits to see if they are from God. 1 John 4:1 ERV

John warns the church to be discerning. Not every teaching that sounds spiritual or impressive comes from God. The “spirits” John mentions are the driving influences behind words and actions, some lead toward truth and love, others toward error and division. Testing the spirits means measuring what we hear against the character and revelation of Jesus: does it promote love, humility, and obedience to God’s Word? Does it point people to Christ and bear the fruit of the Spirit? Discernment isn’t cold suspicion; it’s a loving, careful commitment to truth so we aren’t led astray by clever words or appealing promises. When you hear a teaching, ask: Does this align with Jesus’ life and the Bible? Pause before sharing or following anything that elevates a person, minimizes Scripture, or sows fear and division. Pray for the Holy Spirit to give wisdom and a humble heart that both loves people and holds fast to truth.

Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, give me discernment and a heart tuned to Your Spirit. Help me test every teaching by Your Word and by the fruit it produces. Protect me from deception and fill me with Your love so I can respond with truth and grace. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Precious Mighty Name Jesus Amen.
