Hebrews 13:5–6 ERV: Keep your lives free from the love of money. And be satisfied with what you have. God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never run away from you.” So we can feel sure and say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. People can do nothing to me.”

God’s promise to never leave us; a practical assurance of Christ’s abiding presence.

In verse 5 this links ethical living (freedom from greed and contentment) with God’s promise of continual presence: the quoted line “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” reassures believers that God remains with them. In verse 6 this draws the practical conclusion: because God helps and stays with us, we can face people and dangers without fear. The phrase “The Lord is my helper” echoes Old Testament language of trust and divine aid.

Father God, You who are constant and faithful, we come with honest hearts, laying down our restless wanting and our secret fears. Teach us contentment that flows from trust, not from resignation; help us to hold lightly the things of this world because Your presence is our true possession. When loneliness or anxiety presses in, remind us by Your Holy Spirit that You will never leave us nor forsake us; let that promise steady our steps and calm our minds. Make us bold in the face of opposition, not because we are strong, but because You Dear Blessed Lord Jesus are our helper; give us courage to stand for what is right and compassion to act with humility. Guard our hearts from covetousness, open our hands to give, and shape our lives so others see Your faithfulness reflected in us. In moments of doubt, speak Your peace; in moments of decision, be our guide; in every small and great thing, be our help and our hope.
