In this chapter, Jesus delivers His initial “I AM” statement, in which He asserts that those who approach Him will never experience hunger or thirst. He articulates His purpose: to fulfill the Father’s will and grant eternal life, assuring His audience that He will not lose any individual whom the Father entrusts to Him. By declaring, “I am the Bread of Life,” Jesus signifies a commitment beyond mere comfort, He is offering Himself as a solution. While the crowd sought tangible benefits from Him, Jesus intended to provide the One who addresses every spiritual need. Furthermore, He guarantees that all who come to Him will not be rejected, regardless of their circumstances. The passage underscores the dynamic between the Father and Jesus: the Father gives and draws individuals, and Jesus receives and sustains them. It emphasizes that salvation is anchored not in human effort but in divine assurance. Jesus’s fulfillment of the Father’s will includes ensuring that none who trust in Him are lost and that all will be raised on the final day. The metaphor of the Bread of Life highlights the enduring nature of Christ’s provision and steadfastness.
It reads in John 6: 35–40: Then Jesus said, “I am the bread that gives life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry. No one who believes in me will ever be thirsty. I told you before that you have seen me, and still you don’t believe. The Father gives me my people. Every one of them will come to me. I will always accept them. I came down from heaven to do what God wants, not what I want. I must not lose anyone God has given me. But I must raise them up on the last day. This is what the one who sent me wants me to do. Everyone who sees the Son and believes in him has eternal life. I will raise them up on the last day. This is what my Father wants.”
Lord Jesus, Bread of Life, draw my heart to You again. Let me rest in Your promise, trust Your keeping, and live in the hope of the life You give. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Precious Name Amen and Amen.
