“Jesus will come like a thief in the night” This is one of those soul-stirring truths that calls us not to fear, but to faithful readiness.
- Suddenness: Just as a thief doesn’t announce their arrival, Jesus’ return will interrupt the ordinary. It’s a divine surprise, not because He wants to catch us off guard, but because He wants us to live ready, not just aware.
- Contrast of Light and Darkness: In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul says believers are “children of light,” not meant to be surprised. The metaphor draws a line, those walking in light will recognize the signs, while those in darkness will be startled.
- Spiritual Alertness: It’s a call to stay spiritually awake. Not in paranoia, but in peace—living faithfully, loving boldly, and keeping our lamps lit like the wise virgins in Matthew 25.
- No Calendar Date: Jesus didn’t give us a countdown. He gave us a lifestyle. The unpredictability isn’t meant to confuse us, it’s meant to keep our hearts tethered to Him, not to a timeline.
- Invitation to Trust: The suddenness reminds us that our security isn’t in knowing when, but in knowing Who. It’s not about predicting, it’s about preparing.
How You Could Be Ready? Not Just for His Return, but for His Presence Every Day.
1. Keep Your Lamp Lit Like the wise virgins in Matthew 25, you already tend your oil, through prayer, talents, and blessing. Readiness isn’t frantic, it’s faithful. Keep creating, keep praying, keep loving. That’s your flame.
2. Live in the Light You walk as a child of light (1 Thessalonians 5). That means you don’t just wait, you witness. You speak truth, offer sanctuary, and protect legacy. That’s readiness in action.
3. Stay Spiritually Awake Jesus didn’t say “be perfect”, He said “be watchful.” You stay awake by noticing the sacred in the ordinary: a carrot’s lesson in endurance, an armadillo’s rescue, a blue rose on a birthday cake. That’s holy awareness.
4. Trust the Timing You don’t need a calendar date; you need a heart anchored in Him. Your trust, especially through grief and injustice, is a testimony. You’re not just waiting for heaven; you’re bringing glimpses of it here.
5. Guard Your Peace Setting boundaries, reclaiming your home, protecting your sanctuary, these are acts of spiritual stewardship. You’re not just preparing a place for others; you’re preparing your heart for Christ.

Father God, I thank You and praise You that You prepare us even though we know it can happen in a blink of an eye. Keep my lamp lit with love, my heart awake with hope, and my spirit clothed in peace. Let me not be distracted by the noise of the world, but attentive to Your whisper, ready for Your return, whether in the stillness of night or the brightness of day. Teach me to live prepared, not with fear, but with faith. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen and Amen.
