(Character: The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual:), The names of God in
Scripture has various descriptions of his character. In a broad sense, then, God’s “name” is equal to all that the Bible and creation tell us about God. To honor God’s name is to honor him.
(Matthew 6:9). The command, “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain”
(Exodus 20:7) is a command that we do not dishonor God’s reputation either by words that speak of him foolishly or misleadingly or by actions that do not reflect his true character.
In the Bible, a person’s name is a description of his character. So in relationship to God, a person’s character is the sum of his or her disposition, thoughts, intentions, desires, and actions. It is good to remember that character is gauged by general tendencies, not based on a few isolated actions. We must look at the whole life. Character is influenced and developed by our choices. Daniel “resolved not to defile himself” in Babylon (Daniel 1:8 EASY: But Daniel decided that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine. He knew that it might be against God’s rules. So he asked the king’s special officer if he might not have to eat the king’s food.), that godly choice was an important step in formulating an unassailable integrity in the young man’s life. Character, in turn, influences our choices. “The integrity of the upright guides them” (Proverbs 11:3 EASY: Good people are honest, and that shows them the right way to live. But wicked people are not honest, and that destroys them.) The character will help us weather the storms of life and keep us from sin (Proverbs 10:9 EASY: If people are honest, their lives are safe.

But those who are not honest will receive punishment.)
