“Jehovah Sabaoth”

Jehovah Sabaoth is a name of God in the Bible that occurs more than 270 times in the Old Testament. It combines God’s personal name, Jehovah (Yahweh), with the Hebrew word Sabaoth, meaning “host” or “multitude”. The name denotes God’s universal sovereignty over every army, both spiritual and earthly. It is often translated as “The Lord of Hosts” or “The Lord of Armies”. The name is first mentioned in 1 Samuel 1:3, where it is used to refer to God. The first time Jehovah Sabaoth appears in the Bible is in “1 Samuel 1:3 NIV, Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the Lord.” (1 Samuel 1:11 NIV:And she made a vow, saying, ‘Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.’) This is the story of childless Hannah, who wanted a son so badly and earnestly prayed that the Lord would grant her the desire of her heart.
It reads in Isaiah 6:1-3 NIV: In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’
